2010, June 1

New work: Descants - running Friday night, June 4, 2010 in the context of the ELO 2010 conference. Find it at Brown University's Fulton Rehearsal Hall adjacent to Grant Recital Hall. It will run prior to and during intermissions of the performances scheduled that evening at 8PM in Grant. Admission is free and open to the public.

Descants notes: On the occasion of the ELO 2010 conference celebrating Robert Coover, I have devised a 24-channel sound installation/performance. Given the theme of the conference (Archive & Innovate), I chose to investigate the sonic literary archive, utilizing recordings of Robert Coover in the reading of his own work as a framework for this composition. Through a computational process of spectral analysis, editing, and re-synthesis, solo speech is transformed into a chorus of diffused instrumental timbres. Time is stretched, allowing the ebb and flow of the original readings to be heard very slowly - creating an ambient, electro-acoustic arena.

In other news, I'll be upgrading/re-designing this site in the next few months to be HTML5-friendly and moving things over to shawngreenlee.com, leaving the greenlee.02909.com subdomain behind. There'll be a trail of breadcrumbs for you here when that happens.

I'm pleased to announce that I'll be joining the Full Time Faculty of Foundation Studies at the Rhode Island School of Design as Assistant Professor in Fall 2010.

It's been a busy few months, so updates to this website have been sparse. Documentation of recent activities are forthcoming in the works section, as are announcements on summer & fall performances & installations in the upcoming section. Please check back.
