DECOCT (2009)

Decoct: video/sound & installation. Video is taken from a live stream of talk-news television shows. This video input is processed and then utilized to generate an undulating soundscape. For instance in the image below, the red scanline indicates where image luminance changing in a row of pixels causes fluctuations in the sonic interpretation.

The work exists both as an ambient audio-visual piece for video projection and stereophonic sound or as an installation in which the input source is live broadcast news and the computational process happens in the gallery space. In the latter instance, the sonic output is to a certain extent aleatoric.
