REVENANTS (2009)

Revenants is a series of audio installations making use of several decommisioned computers put back into service and running programs that filter information sources (image, text, sound) for the purpose of uncovering "hidden" acoustic transmissions in an environment. Several machines running in tandem, engaged in a process of filtration create a multi-channel, sonorous amalgam in the exhibition space... one that is inherently the sound of deciphering more-so than an arrival at a decrypted message.

This work deals with a key concept in my work, that of "falsing." In short, "falsing" is a false positive - a signal appearing where one was not (apparently) sent. My belief is that by engaging in an action of "falsing" one becomes open to a larger set of possibilities for signals, and that one might receive from a "sender" a message that is currently beyond our capacity to perceive or (at least) that by listening and finding meaning, we become more aware of our participation in information retrieval and can actively find personal resonance without complete comprehension.

WORK IN PROGRESS -- This work will be the basis of an installation for early 2010. Please check back for updates and documentation on this work as it unfolds.
